Marvel’s Record Breaking Black Panther Teaser Trailer Racks up 89M Views in First 24 Hours

The first teaser trailer for Marvel’s Black Panther, directed by Ryan Coogler debuted during the first quarter of Game 4 of the NBA finals on ABC last Friday, right before being released on social media platforms. It took just 24 hours for the action-packed 2-minute trailer to generate an impressive 89 million views. (The figure includes the 19 million views from those watching the NBA Finals)

The film sees Chadwick Boseman playing T’Challa, aka Black Panther; the king of the fictional African nation of Wakanda, who must defend his land from being destroyed by enemies from outside, and inside, the country.

It may not top the 136 million views amassed by the first Thor: Ragnarok teaser, but exceeds the view count for teasers such as Captain America: Civil War (61 million), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (55 million), and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (52 million). This puts Black Panther as the studio’s top 3 most-watched trailers ever!

The teaser has already taken the world of social media by storm, racking up a remarkable 349,000 mentions in 24 hours on Twitter – meaning more people were talking about the teaser than the NBA game on which it debuted, starting the hashtag #BlackPantherSoLit (🔥 🔥)

It remains to be seen whether the record setting trailer will transform into a to a box office smash, but it has huge potential to become the highest grossing film of the franchise.

Black Panther is scheduled to tear onto screens February 16, 2018. As we continue to expand the BulbBotz™ Characterized Night Light range, keep an eye out for our Marvel releases in 2018!
